Desert Mirror, a solo exhibition by Erika Lynne Hanson, is the first in EX-AIR, a new exhibitions series from the Frank

Lloyd Wright Foundation. It is the result of two years in residence at Taliesin West, a site built as a desert laboratory in the Sonoran Desert. Hanson is an interdisciplinary artist whose work is rooted in textile practices. Her projects

consider human and more-than-human entanglements in relation to the built environment, climate futures, and

economic systems.

Desert Mirror examines the processes behind contemporary infrastructure, connecting rapid urban development and

its material origins. Through site-specific weavings, sculptures, and videos, the exhibition thinks with water, resource

extraction, climate instability, and the more-than-human communities that inhabit a site, fostering deeper awareness

of our built environment.

Working from the premise that "everything comes from somewhere," and drawing on Frank Lloyd Wright's principle of Organic Architecture, the exhibition uses Desert Masonry — the primary construction method at Taliesin West — to

illuminate the systems and labor required to build our contemporary urban and rural environments. Desert Masonry is

a transparent methodology: rock is gathered from the surrounding acreage and formed into the buildings themselves,

making materiality, craft, and labor visible in the finished structure.
